What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work in the same way, and this policy covers them too.
How we use them
We group cookies into three categories. Necessary cookies are always on. Analytics and marketing cookies are off until you choose to allow them, and you can change your choice at any time.
Necessary
Needed for the website to work and to remember your choices. They do not track you.
| Name | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers the language you chose | 1 year |
cookie_consent | Remembers your cookie choices | 6 months |
theme (local storage) | Remembers light or dark mode, if you chose one | Until you clear it |
csrftoken, sessionid | Security and sign-in, for staff using the admin area only | Up to 2 weeks |
Analytics
Help us understand how visitors use the website so we can improve it, through Google Analytics. They are set only if you allow analytics cookies. Google Analytics cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) are kept for up to 2 years.
Our own page-view statistics do not use cookies and are described in our privacy policy.
Marketing
Used to measure our campaigns and show relevant adverts on other websites, for example by Google Ads or social media platforms loaded via Google Tag Manager. They are set only if you allow marketing cookies, and how long they last is set by the provider.
Managing your choices
When you first visit, we ask which optional cookies you allow. To change your choice later, select Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If you withdraw consent, we stop setting those cookies and remove the ones we can.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may stop parts of the website, such as remembering your language, from working.
Third-party cookies
Analytics and marketing cookies are set by third parties such as Google, which handle the data under their own privacy policies, for example Google's privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we change the cookies we use. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
